This is my tale of what happened with me, PC LIVE Megamall, and HP Philippines.

Please note that all throughout the ordeal, the only communication I had was with PC Live personnel.
I accidentally broke the LCD protective screen of my HP mini 1001TU. Knowing that it was not covered by warranty, I brought the unit back to PC LIVE (where I bought it) so they can represent me to HP and estimate how much would it cost to have the LCD replaced.

After more than a month of waiting, HP finally gave a quotation of 27100.00 PHP just to replace the screen. Of course, I am outraged by the price that they gave. I asked the PC Live rep to re-confirm again the price.
I wrote to HP customer support and I am not hoping for a reply, but it’s just an fyi to them.

Here is my letter:

Hi. I have bought an HP mini 1000 from a local store here in the Philippines. PC LIVE, which is a store that is owned by ACCENT MICRO PRODUCTS INC, one of your distributors here in the Philippines.

As you are well aware, this product has a webcam issue which can be fixed by removing the “film” that is covering the webcam inside that LCD glossy protective screen. In my attempt to remove it, I have cracked my LCD screen.

I know that this is my fault and warranty does not cover this. So I brought my unit back to PC LIVe and they brought it to HP Philippines Service center located in Makati City. I am willing to pay for the damages done so long as the cost is reasonable. Now, when I inquired how much it would cost to fix and replace the protective screen, they charged me 27100PHP (563.00 USD).

This is outrageous. I would have preferred to buy a new unit because of this. I have researched what part I need replaced and found this:

http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main?sel_flg=partinfo&template=main&cpric=philippines&psrchmode=&partsrch=506333-001&submit.x=9&submit.y=4

<click here for link>

The part has to be less than that amount as a brand new unit itself does not even come close to that price. I do not know why HP Philippines would charge me this much!
I would like you to know this experience of mine as a consumer and this is just not right. With that, I also would like to know how much does this cost? Based on the forums I have read, it’s around 100 USD. It still does not make sense why they charge me up to more than 5 times as much when the product itself is around 400USD only!
Please get back to me regarding this.
Details:
Serial Number: CNU8472FGZ

Picture of damage: <click here for link>

And like I said, I do not understand why they would charge me that much. It even costs more than the price of the latest Mini 110 Series they have here.

The representative from PC LIVE Megamall has just called me and informed me that the price is indeed correct and verified and my unit is available for pick up – damaged still.
